Subscriptions
GemID has three plans: Free, Hobbyist, and Pro. Every install starts with a 7-day Pro trial — no account or credit card required. After the trial, the Free plan activates automatically. Upgrade whenever you need saving, nat/syn testing, or report export.
The 7-Day Free Trial
When you first open GemID on any platform, a full Pro trial starts automatically. No account, no payment method, no action required.
- All Pro features are active for 7 days: nat/syn testing, treatment protocols, report builder, examination records, simulant database, client metadata.
- A banner on the identification screen shows how many days remain. Dismiss it anytime — the trial keeps running in the background.
- After 7 days, the Free plan activates automatically. No charge is made and no subscription is created.
- You can create an account and subscribe at any point before or after the trial expires.
No auto-renewal. The trial does not require a payment method and does not convert to a paid subscription. After 7 days you are on the Free plan. You must actively subscribe to unlock paid features.

Annual vs. Monthly Billing
Annual plans save approximately 40% compared to paying monthly.
Switching from monthly to annual
Cancel your monthly subscription through your platform (App Store / Google Play / Stripe portal), then resubscribe at the annual rate. The annual plan takes effect immediately at your next renewal. All of your saved data and sessions are preserved during the switch.
Platform-managed billing. Changes to your billing cycle are handled by Apple, Google, or Stripe. GemID does not process payments directly and cannot issue refunds for partial periods.
Subscribing
You can start a subscription from any gated feature — tap a Pro or Hobbyist feature and the paywall opens automatically with a tier comparison and feature checkmarks. You can also go to Settings → Upgrade at any time.

Choose Hobbyist or Pro, then monthly or annual.
Confirm with Face ID or Touch ID
Apple handles the transaction. Your subscription activates immediately and is billed through your App Store account.
Android Google Play In-App Purchase
Open the paywall
Tap any gated feature to open the paywall, or go to Settings → Upgrade.
Select a plan and confirm
Choose your plan and confirm with Google Play billing. Your subscription activates immediately.
Web Stripe — gemid-labs.com/app/
Go to Settings → Upgrade

Stripe checkout
Enter your card details in the Stripe checkout page.
Subscription activates immediately
Return to the app — your plan is upgraded. Future billing is handled by Stripe.
Managing Your Subscription
Go to Settings → Manage Subscription on any platform to access your subscription management portal. From there you can change your plan, update payment information, or cancel.
iOS
Settings → Manage Subscription opens the Apple Subscriptions page (apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions). All billing changes are made there.
Android
Settings → Manage Subscription opens Google Play Subscriptions. Use the Google Play app to change or cancel your plan.
Web
Settings → Manage Subscription opens the Stripe customer portal. From there you can cancel, switch between monthly and annual, or update your payment method.
Cancellation timing. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain access to paid features until the period ends. Partial billing periods are not refunded.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use GemID without a subscription?
Yes. The Free tier is permanent and has no time limit. You can run 3 identifications per month against the full 130-gem database with all 15 input sections. Saving sessions, nat/syn testing, and report export require Hobbyist or Pro.
Does the free trial auto-renew into a paid subscription?
No. The 7-day trial does not require a payment method and does not auto-renew. When the trial ends, the app switches to the Free plan automatically. You must actively choose a paid plan and complete a purchase to subscribe.
What happens to my saved sessions if I downgrade?
Your data is preserved. If you downgrade from Pro to Hobbyist, nat/syn results and reports remain visible in your session records. If you downgrade from Hobbyist to Free, your sessions stay in Firestore but saving new sessions is disabled until you resubscribe. Nothing is deleted.
Is there a student or institutional discount?
Not currently. If you're a gemology student or GIA Graduate Gemologist, email us — we're building an advisory program for professionals. Institutional pricing for labs and schools is on the roadmap.
Can I use the same subscription on multiple devices?
Yes. Sign in with your GemID account on any device using the same email address. Your subscription tier is tied to your account and is recognized on all platforms where you're signed in.
What platform handles my payment?
On iOS, purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. On Android, by Google through Google Play. On the web, by Stripe. GemID does not store payment card details.
