By using GemID, you agree to these terms. Please read them. They're written plainly — no legalese for its own sake.
GemID uses property-based identification (refractive index, specific gravity, fluorescence, and other optical and physical properties) to narrow down candidate gem species. The accuracy of any result depends entirely on the accuracy and completeness of the measurements you provide.
GemID does not use photo recognition. It does not claim to replace a gemologist. It does not produce USPAP-compliant appraisals.
You must create an account to save identification sessions or access paid features. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must notify us immediately at legal@gemid-labs.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
You must be at least 13 years old (or 16 years old in the EEA) to create an account. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or are used in a manner that harms other users or the service.
GemID offers the following subscription tiers:
Prices are in USD. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
Subscriptions purchased through Apple App Store or Google Play are subject to those platforms' billing terms and are managed through your Apple ID or Google account respectively.
You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain access to paid features until then. We do not offer partial-period refunds except where required by applicable law.
Web subscriptions (Stripe): Cancel anytime from Settings › Account in the app or the web portal. Contact legal@gemid-labs.com for billing disputes.
iOS subscriptions: Manage through Apple ID settings. Refund requests are handled by Apple per their App Store refund policy.
Android subscriptions: Manage through Google Play. Refund requests are handled by Google per their Play Store refund policy.
EU / EEA right of withdrawal: If you are a consumer in the European Economic Area and you subscribe through our website, you may have a 14-day statutory right of withdrawal from the date of purchase, provided you have not used the paid features during that period. To exercise this right, contact legal@gemid-labs.com.

Violation of acceptable use terms may result in suspension or termination of your account without refund.
GemID Labs owns the service. The GemID application, its codebase, the gem reference database, visual design, brand assets, and all associated content are the property of Compton Consulting (DBA GemID Labs) and are protected by copyright and other applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the service without prior written permission.
You own your gem data. Identification sessions, measurements, and notes you enter are yours. You grant GemID Labs a limited license to store and process that data solely to provide the service to you. We do not claim ownership of your data and do not use it to train models without explicit consent.
The GemID name, mark, and logo are trademarks of Compton Consulting (DBA GemID Labs).
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
GemID Labs does not warrant that:
Gem identification results produced by GemID are indicators consistent with the measurements entered. They are not substitutes for professional gemological examination.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GEMID LABS AND ITS OWNERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUE, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $50 USD, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the service that cannot be resolved informally shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Ohio, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction for intellectual property disputes.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you may also have the right to bring a dispute before your local courts under applicable EU consumer protection law.
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you via the app or by email. Continued use of the service after updated terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
If you do not agree to the updated terms, you should stop using the service and may cancel your subscription per Section 4.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
We may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, without restriction. You may not assign or transfer any rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent.
