Reference data stays in English. Gem property ranges, treatment names, and origin terminology in the gem database remain in English regardless of the selected language. UI strings and prompts are fully translated.

Identification Tips

When enabled, small tip cards appear on the identification screen with guidance for beginners — prompts about when to use a refractometer, how to interpret optical character results, and similar hints.

Show Tips
On by default. Turn off for a cleaner interface once you're familiar with the workflow.

Analytics

GemID uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data. This data helps improve the app — it shows which features are used, how screens are navigated, and where users drop off.

Analytics
On by default. Collects anonymous screen views and feature usage frequency. No personal data, no gem data, no session content is collected or transmitted.

Opting out. Toggle Analytics off to stop all Firebase Analytics collection. The opt-out applies immediately and persists across sessions. It does not affect app functionality.

Data & Privacy

Opens the Privacy & Data screen — a detailed view of all data GemID stores for your account.

Privacy & Data
View what's stored, export your data, or request account deletion.

What the Privacy & Data screen covers

  • Data types stored: account email, saved identification sessions, attached photos.
  • Data export: request a JSON export of all your session data.
  • Account deletion: submit a deletion request. Your account and associated data are deleted immediately; residual copies in system backups are purged within 30 days. The request is irreversible.

Account deletion is also accessible directly at gemid-labs.com/delete-account/ — no sign-in required to submit a deletion request.

Find a Lab

Opens the Find a Lab screen — a curated list of accredited gemological laboratories. Use this when a stone requires testing that field instruments cannot provide: beryllium diffusion detection, CVD diamond identification, country-of-origin determination, or treatment disclosure for high-value stones.

Find a Lab
Accredited labs for advanced testing and certification.

Labs listed

  • GIA — Gemological Institute of America
  • SSEF — Swiss Gemmological Institute
  • Gübelin Gem Lab
  • AGL — American Gemological Laboratories
  • GemResearch Swisslab (GRS)
  • Additional accredited laboratories

When to use a lab. GemID narrows identification to candidates consistent with your measurements. For stones of significant value, stones with possible treatment that field tests cannot confirm (such as Be diffusion in corundum), or stones requiring a certificate for resale, a lab report from an accredited institution is recommended.

How Settings Are Saved

Settings changes take effect immediately. Theme, language, and tips preference are saved to your device's local storage and persist across sessions without an account.

If you are signed in, settings sync to your account and carry across devices automatically. If you sign in on a new device, your preferences are restored.
