Diaspore

Color-change diaspore marketed as Zultanite or Csarite shifts from kiwi green in daylight to champagne/pink in incandescent light. Commercially sourced almost exclusively from Turkey. Distinct from alexandrite: color shift is green-to-champagne rather than green-to-red. High birefringence (0.048) causes moderate facet doubling visible under 10x loupe.

Through the dichroscope

Diaspore Trichroic — two of three at a time BEST ORIENTATION ROTATED 45° — THE NULL At its best orientation Diaspore shows colorless in one window and pale yellow-green in the other. Rotate the instrument 45° and the two windows become IDENTICAL — the null. So "both windows the same" means either the stone is singly refractive or you are holding the instrument at the wrong angle, and the only way to tell is to turn it. Diaspore is trichroic: a third colour, pink-champagne, appears in a different orientation, and a dichroscope only ever shows two at once.
